You Don't Need To Reach For The Stars

You don't need to reach for the stars.

What if you are enough?

What if you are good enough and no longer need to self-improve?

What if you are happy right where you are now, and deep down you don't want to go further, higher, faster?

It is perfectly okay not having the desire to climb up that career ladder and getting all stressed out along the way.

It's okay not to live up to other people's expectations and ideas of what success means.

You can be successful in your own little way that lights you up without pushing yourself more and more relentlessly.

It's okay to quit a job and start over at the bottom of a new profession that is fun and exciting rather than giving you a burnout while chasing money and status.

What if all you can think of is to survive each day as it comes rather than entertaining some lofty ambitions?

That's okay. Take your time to rest and heal. No need to feel shame for not contributing or being productive.

You are worthy of support as much as you give it to others.

No need to be better, richer or more beautiful.

My cat isn't thinking about changing the colour of her fur to become more popular with other cats.


She is happily lying on the sofa practicing self-care, at ease with herself and enjoying the moment.

It is time to be at ease with yourself.

Rather than aiming higher, why not aim lower?

What is really important?

Reach for the stars surrounding you, the ones you perhaps undervalue, take for granted or simply don't see.

Why not reach for health, nature, togetherness, contentment, exploration, and imagination rather than possessions and status.

And why not accept that sometimes it's okay to be inadequate.

It's okay to be not good enough, even though you tried your best at the time, it didn't work out the way you wanted.

It happens, because you are human. Imperfect, fragile, a little bit messed up.
Forgive yourself.

Questions to explore:

• Where are you trying too hard and why?
• What/Who is draining your energy / self-worth?
• What is not necessary?
• Where does less give you more?

No longer reaching for the stars doesn't mean stagnation. Adjusting your trajectory offers new challenges, rewards and growth.

Draw a card for each position placing cards face down. Choose one of them - trick or treat?

It can always be tempting to choose TREAT, but sometimes you may want to face some tricky demons to resolve an issue, and the TREAT may not be favourable in the long-term or such a great idea.

Fuel shortages, empty supermarket shelves, electricity price hikes, impending blackouts…

While the world is becoming even more insane, it might be a good idea to tap into your inner Page of Wands - turning panic into excitement and an adventurous spirit.

After all, that's all we can do, right? ๐Ÿ˜„

Okay, we can also stockpile candles, bottled water and pasta...

Life at the moment certainly isn't boring.

With all the ongoing disruptions, we don't know what's around the corner, so it's a bit like a suspense thriller.

Whatever next?

Be mindful about how unsettling news and events affect your body - adrenaline surges, constantly lingering in fight or flight mode, increasing fear and foreboding, and the resulting emotional choices and actions we may later regret.

Stagnation – Making the Most of Feeling Stuck

Stagnation – the opposite of moving, growing, progressing.

An uncomfortable feeling of restlessness, the urge to get up and go, but you can’t…

Who wants to be stuck in limbo?

Waiting for a new job to come up (especially when you are unemployed).

Waiting for new love to come into your life (when you begin to feel that you have been single for too long).

Waiting for a house sale to go through.

Waiting for someone to get in touch with you.

Waiting in the queue, stuck in a traffic jam or at the airport

And then there are pandemic lockdowns to put up with… anything that stops you from getting on with life, and it’s all a little outside your control.

There is only so much you can do to influence your situation, and sometimes you will just have to sit it out until some movement takes place.

It is easy to get impatient, when the time of waiting seems to drag on forever, but instead of thinking that life is passing you by, you can accept stagnation as a gift.

Yes, it is possible to make the most of feeling stuck, because it does have its advantages…

Stagnation doesn’t mean that nothing is happening.

While you are enduring a long waiting phase, tiny shifts occur, internally and externally, without you realising.

A new perspective, a change of heart or mind, a new insight, new opportunities, changing circumstances or priorities….

Even while you are stuck in a long checkout queue, you can simply pause, take a deep breath and enjoy the standstill before you continue being busy again.

Getting back to basics, slowing down…

Stagnation in the Cosmic Journaling Oracle may ask you to embrace a waiting phase as a gift.

You have time to consider your options, discover new opportunities, enjoy the calm before the storm.

Stagnation may also suggest delays, lack of progress, your patience will be tested, self-restriction, rigidity, or the process of sowing, waiting and reaping.

Perhaps you have fallen into the trap of waiting for the future to come –

  • waiting for the weekend
  • waiting for summer
  • waiting to be happy again one day…

In this case, Stagnation reminds you to focus on the present and make the most of the here and now.

Questions to ask:

  • What area in your life are you currently waiting for something, and what is it you are actually waiting for?
  • What can you do to be more relaxed about it and even enjoy this period of stagnation?
  • Look back into your past and remind yourself of times, when you had to wait for something. How did you deal with it, and what happened in the end?

While a longer waiting period in life can be challenging, it can also offer new possibilities and serve as a reminder to make the most of the present by spending the extra time on what you love

Life has been messy for many people since the pandemic and various lockdown measures began to restrict all our lives.

And while we are all trying to hang in there and make the best of a bad situation, mental health issues have started to creep up on us, mostly in the form of anxiety, stress and depression. 

Lack of energy, tearfulness, overwhelm, aches and pains, constantly worrying... one way to stay focused on our wellbeing is cultivating a positive mindset.

Creating tarot affirmations to overcome anxiety is a magical and effective way to practice mindfulness during difficult times.

There is no doubt that the lockdown measures around the world caused by the pandemic have offered many people a chance to slow down, spend more time with loved ones and even generated new business ideas and opportunities.

Over the last year in this surreal state of stagnation, I also cherished the quiet life away from noisy crowds, busy traffic and hectic travel schedules.

All well and good, but at the same time many people have also been affected by loss, insecurity, worries and fears of what the future might hold.

Mental health issues during the Covid-19 have increased, such as depression and anxiety.

There are many activities that can be cultivated to cope with mental health issues, but in this article I focus on practicing mindfulness with tarot affirmations to overcome anxiety.

Affirmations are often used to turn negative thinking into a more optimistic outlook, and they can work really well when used regularly.

Each card in the Tarot offers its own powerful messages, and when you draw your daily card, choose affirmations as suggested below.

Repeat these affirmations to yourself regularly during the day to cultivate positivity, resilience and joy. This can help you snap out of the negative self-talk loop.

Here are suggestions for some of the Major Arcana cards:

The Fool

The Year of The Hierophant

After a tumultuous Emperor year, we have now arrived in the year of the Hierophant, and we are all looking forward to better days ahead.

But our problems haven't disappeared overnight, and we still have to muster up more patience and resilience to weather the remaining storm.

During the Emperor year, the world has witnessed leadership (and lack of) at its worst, and the newly elected leaders in the US will have to rebuild what has been destroyed, especially since the pandemic took hold back in March 2020.

The Hierophant, linked to Taurus in the Tarot, is about established structures, organisations, education and tradition, much of which has been damaged in recent months.

We have also realised that many structures, systems and ways we do things are outdated, archaic, and no longer working.

During the year of the Hierophant it is our task to rebuild, restructure, re-organise and change what is rigid and restrictive.

Old alliances are dismantled, new ones established.

While home-working was one seen as the lazy option, it is now an essential part of working life.

Money and investment will be paramount to revitalise the economy.

On a personal level, savings plans and debt reduction should be on everyone's priority list this year.

We are beginning to realise

  • how dependent many of us are on employment, and how disastrous it can be when suddenly everything shuts down.
  • to look for more sustainable alternatives, which also includes a different economic model to capitalism.
  • to question everything that has been solid, steadfast, safe and secure including our democracy - how safe is it from being taken hostage and dismantled by a rogue corrupt psychopath?

Uncertainty has taught us that it's okay to discard or change what we have been used to for so long, and life didn't seem possible without it.

But it is possible. After the devastating destruction 2020 has brought, we begin to understand what isn't important and what is essential:

  • a university degree vs. entrepreneurship and life skills
  • a highly paid job vs. jobsatisfaction at lower income
  • material success vs. mental and spiritual wellbeing
  • flying on holiday vs. holidaying in a camper van independly from hotels and public transport
  • lots of overtime vs. more time with family and friends
  • keyboard activism vs. meaningful local community work
  • Starbucks coffee vs. home-brewed coffee
  • etc.

Uncertainty is part of everyday life, and that's why it is also important to create stability represented by the Hierophant to alleviate fear of the unknown.

The year of the Hierophant offers us immense opportunities to begin again in all areas of life.

Emphasis is on the collective and community building. Learning and teaching beyond schools and universities. Flexible working. Mental health. Taking care of others and our planet.

There is a need to step away and emotionally detach from tribal thinking to see the bigger picture and heal polarised communities.

Consciously reject anyone stirring up hatred, aggression and division and instead seeking and encouraging meaningful dialogue that brings people together.

The traditional RWS image of the Hierophant depicts two acolytes kneeling in front of a religious figurehead.

They seem to listen and absorb his every word.

In today's world, many people feel lost and look for new guidance due to chaotic governance, uncertainty and the fallout of the pandemic.

It is easy for manipulators to take advantage of this situation by spreading misinformation and antagonism.

During the year of the Hierophant, it is important for us all to be discerning and aware of how easily we can fall for gaslighters with dark hidden agendas.

Always keep an open mind, allow yourself to change your point of view and avoid emotional attachment to specific groups, movements, parties and personalities.

The Hierophant also represents philosophy. During this year, explore your personal philosophy - your values, ethics, and rules to live by.

The year of the Hierophant will be another year of ups and downs, but we will also begin the slow process of rebuilding and reforming the crumbling structures we have been used to for so long.

More than ever this also includes discarding old, out-dated habits and beliefs to make way for new and better possibilities.
